In an argument with my friend who returned to religion, one of his claims was “How is it possible that all the sophisticated systems in a person’s body were created by evolution; only a higher power could have done this.” To my question of from whence stemmed this higher power he answered that it is something eternal.

You can frame your response to the person who returned to religion as we did our answer on the issue of Faith in the Existence of G-d. “The concept of ‘G-d’ is a purely verbal answer devoid of any significance for us. One who says ‘I believe in the existence of G-d’ says, in plain words, ‘I believe in the existence of limits to our reason and I know nothing’.”
